Fantasy Football Podcast

This is drinkfive.com, checking in with another fantasy football podcast! As we approach the 2015 NFL rookie draft and teams start their offseason training programs, the amount of news and conjecture surrounding the 2015 fantasy football season should increase exponentially. We used this episode to chat about some recent news, the release of the 2015 NFL schedule and to shine a spotlight on the NFC West division - filled with some strong defenses but a little light on offensive prowess (though the Seahawks are certainly an exception to that rule, especially with their offseason addition of Jimmy Graham from the Saints).
(Listen to the Fantasy Football Podcast - 4/21/15 - NFL Schedule, NFC West)
Next week, we'll be back to the retrospectical podcast for an in-depth look on another interesting topic. Check out our archives for your listening pleasure, or tune in next Tuesday at 9pm CT to listen to the show live (mixlr.com/drinkfive) We'll check back in on the fantasy football radar after the NFL draft and bring our rookie expert Shawn Foss (@shawn_foss) on to give us a detailed rundown on the top fantasy prospects this year and how their situations stack up in the scheme of things.

We're back to fantasy football, baby! Tonight marks the 2015 return of fantasy football talk on the drinkfive network. We've got a lot of moves to catch up with, and we managed to stop off with nearly every team and at least talk about who they gained and who they lost. Since it was St Paddy's day, we also enjoyed some Irish Whiskey and toasted to drinkfive writer Troy Maples, happy birthday buddy!
Fantasy Football Podcast - March 17 - Around the NFL, 2015 Rosters!
We'll be back next week with another retrospectical episode. We'll be talking about all things bacon, and in two weeks we'll be discussing digital currencies (ya know, like bitcoin or dogecoin). We'll check back in on the fantasy football radar around the NFL draft and bring our rookie expert Shawn Foss (@shawn_foss) on to tell us who to look out for.

12/23/14, Week 17 - Fantasy Wrap-up, QB/RB/WR vs. ADP
Welcome to the last show of 2014. It's been a hell of a year and a fun one as well. Tonight, we enjoyed Hopalicious from Ale Asylum, a brewery out of Madison, WI. It is, of course, an IPA (American IPA) to be exact. While it's not my favorite IPA, I'd definitely get another 6 sometime.
Tonight we broke down the results for the comparisons of top 10 ADP and top 10 points finishers. We looked at the results every four weeks this year in order to track the progress and try and formulate a better draft strategy for next year. We came to some interesting conclusions and will post more of our research in the offseason. Until then, please enjoy the NFL playoffs and keep track of us on the website and follow us on twitter @drinkfive.

12/16/14, December 16 - Fantasy Championship Week, It's All Good
It’s championship week! Get HYPED! I’m talking the Mountain vs the Red Viper hyped. Hopefully your game has a happier ending though. This week Dave and I broke down some fun stories from across the NFL (staying mercifully away from Johnny Manziel). We hit Dave’s waiver wire picks, discussing the need for a handcuff to Demarco Murray due to his hand surgery this past Monday. (As of this posting, he has been practicing and is expected to play).
We also went over the trends that we looked at last week and predicted the track of new ones. We said Andrew Luck would stay up, Emmanuel Sanders will bounce back and put up points, Odell Beckham Jr. will continue his incredible production and should at least reach his season average of 15 pts against the Rams and finally, we picked Jeremy Hill as a candidate to stay hot, over Giovani Bernard.
Finally, we took a look at all of our season long bets. It’s time, or almost time, to pay up on most of them and the rest will have an exciting finish in store for them. Be sure to check back next week when we recap the fantasy season.

12/09/14, Week 15 - In Which Jonas Gray Has Disappeared
Welcome to another installment of the drinkfive Podcast. We’re knee deep in fantasy football playoffs, which is just fine with us! We broke down some of the fun stuff from week 14 before diving into our weekly segment, the trends. As always, we started it by drinking for the trends that we didn’t predict correctly last week. We also looked more into the trends themselves and what we should really be getting out of them.
For Week 15, we said that Matt Ryan will continue his upward trend and reach or exceed his line of 21 points against the Steelers. We looked a Demaryius Thomas and the Broncos and set his line at 14. Dave said he’d stick with the trend and go under, I said he’d break it and go over 14. Malcolm Floyd has been talked about a bunch lately and is trending up. Dave said he’d continue that and score over 8.5, I said he’d struggle and go under. Joquie Bell’s line was set at only 12 points and both of us went over for his matchup this week against the Vikings. Shane Vereen has been struggling and we both said that he would stay under 8 points against the Dolphins. Finally, we looked at Denard Robinson’s downward trend. This is now irrelevant as he’s on the IR. Drink five anyways!
To wrap up the show, we discussed waiver pickups for this week. Coming in the following weeks, we will gather all of the trend data, finish looking at where the top 10 ADP/finishing RB’s and WR’s are and have more guests!

12/02/14, Into the Breach! Week 14, Playoffs
This week we had several beers to choose from, starting with the common but good Sam Adams Boston Lager. I had a 2014 Celebration IPA from Sierra Nevada, a wet hopped IPA that is very good. We also split a bomber of the Stone Brewing Double Bastard, an 11% beast. We started off the show with waiver wire discussion, ranging from Johnny Football to Steadman Bailey and Jordan Reed.
We went over our trends for week 12 and drank for the trends we did not get and, ostensibly, you drank for the ones we got right. Going forward, we actually look back because Dave doubled down on a trend from last week. He insists that Tim Wright will have over 6.1 points this week and if he's right, I'll drink 10 and if he's wrong, he'll drink 20. For Week 14, we both say that Flacco will go under 14 points and Mike Evans stays under 11 points. We split on DeSean Jackson, Dave going under 12 points and Jason over 12. Jeremy Hill has been trending down and both of us say he'll go over 12 points, staying in the mix with Giovani Bernard.
Rashad Jennings has been trending up and both of us say he'll stay over 12 points. Jason Witten has been trending down, but both of us agree that he'll bounce back with an easy matchup against the Bears. Finally, we bet a six pack on the outcome of the Steelers/Bengals game. Dave, of course, has the Steelers and Jason has the Bengals.

And here's a bonus: We're trying out a new podcast streaming option and did an hour of bonus content. It's not really about fantasy football, but it was pretty fun!

11/26/14, Trends and Top Tens in Week 13
This week we had a big show, jam packed with good info. To start off, we changed it up and drank wine. No, no, that would never happen on this show. We did start right off with this weeks' waiver pickups. We then drank for last week's trends and predicted some new ones.
Ryan Tannehill has been trending up and Dave and I both think that he will score over 20 points this week. John Brown now has the official drinkfive.com fantasy fool's gold stamp - both of us think he will stay under 8 points. LeSean McCoy is heading up, we both say he'll score over 12 points. Dave added a bet for next week's beers - McCoy points for Jason vs Jordan Matthews points for Dave. Good luck buddy! Next is Frank Gore who has really been struggling. Dave and I both say that he'll score under 8.5 points. Dave went a step further saying that he'll never score over 12 points in his life again. Finally, Tim Wright is the biggest pickup of the week for Tight Ends, according to Yahoo stats. We both think he's fool's gold, Dave predicts, rather specifically, that he will be between 6.1 and 8 points, and I am going to go under 6.1.
To wrap up the show, we did the third quarter check in on the top 10 WR's and RB's. We compare them to their ADP, and then look at where the top 10 ADP wound up. After week 4 and 8, it looked like the WR's were a better value at the top of the draft. This time around, the RB's look way more consistent. Listen to the show for our take on this and check back after week 16 to get a final report card.

11/18/14, Approaching the Playoffs, Fantasy Trends
This week on the show, we enjoyed some fine scotch. Glenlivet 12 year to be exact, and a fine scotch it is. We started right into grading last week's trend predictions. Dave and I assigned plenty of drinks to the audience, and we drank a few for ourselves as well. On to this week's predictions:
Matt Stafford has been trending down, Dave and I split on him with Dave saying he'll go over 18 and I say he'll go under. Golden Tate's trend has mirrored Stafford's in many ways, and we've split on this player just like before. Dave says Tate will go over 11 and I say he'll stay under 11 points. Torrey Smith is the first player we agree on, both of us saying he'll go over 10 points. Andre Ellington was another split, Dave betting on the TD and going over 11, while I stay under 11 points. Mark Ingram we agreed on, both of us saying he'll stay under 14 points. Martellus Bennett is another guy who we think will continue his down trend, staying under 7 points.
You can check out our article breaking down all of the trends, and be sure to check in next week before the show to see the results. Finally this week, we talked about waiver wire pickups and answered some questions from the peanut gallery. Please keep the questions coming!

11/11/14, Trending! Julio Jones, Le'Veon Bell, DeAndre Hopkins and more..
Tonight on the show, we were joined by our rookie expert Shawn Foss. Shawn has joined us on and off this year, and his input is always valued. We enjoyed a bomber of the Abita Select Imperator Black IPA, Revolution Fistmas and Continuum IPA from Saugatuck Brewing Company, all of them excellent.
We continued to track trends and drank for last week's misses while assigning Shawn to drink for the audience. This week we have Cam Newton scoring over 13.34 points and continuing his upward trend. Julio Jones will easily score 12 or more against the Panthers. DeAndre Hopkins we split on, Dave and Jason saying he'll go less than 10, Shawn says he'll be over 10. Le'Veon Bell has been trending down - Dave and Shawn say that he'll go over 12 points (Shawn says he'll get that with yardage alone), I say he'll stay under 12 points. Finally, Ahmad Bradshaw has been trending down, to everyone's surprise - but everyone also agrees that he will reverse the trend and score over 12 points this week.

11/04/14, In which Mark Sanchez is a relevant fantasy player
This week we started off the show with a few beers and toasted Ben Roethlisberger's new record of 12 TD's in just two games. Jeremy Hill and Mark Sanchez were also topics, as were Terrance West, the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals, all big winners in week 9. Now let's move on to the trends.
We drank for the trends we predicted last week and picked a few new ones for next week. For week 10, we've got: Russell Wilson will score over 18 and resume his proper fantasy output, we both agree. Emmanuel Sanders will continue to do well, 15 pts or more. Kelvin Benjamin stays relevant and scores 8 or more points. Alfred Morris will score a solid 14 points or more, we both agree. Branden Oliver will continue his struggles and is basically irrelevant at this point. Zach Ertz is the only player we disagree on, Dave going under 5 points and Jason taking 5 or more.
Because this is the drinkfive podcast, we can't just stop there when it comes to bets. Beers for next week's show will rest upon the performances of Heath Miller for Dave and Zach Ertz for Jason. We've also decided to bet Portillo's with Dave taking the Miami DST and Jason taking the Lions DST. All points are determined via standard scoring.
