NFL Confidence Pool Picks & Strategy 2021 - Week 4

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL
Well, here we are, the week with the game that everyone circled as soon as the schedule was announced back in the spring…The Return! I think we are all looking forward to see the reception the scorned city will give. Cheers? Boos? Tears? We’ll all find out in prime time…on Monday when the Raiders return to Los Angeles after playing nearly 15 season there a few decades ago.

What? … … … is there a more relevant and timely return this week?

Week 4 – HERE WE GO!!!!

(HOME TEAM IN CAPS)

16 – BUFFALO over Houston – Deshaun Watson isn’t walking through that door anytime soon…and it probably wouldn’t help anyway.

15 – CINCINNATI over Jacksonville – After this week, Trevor Lawrence will have lost as many games in four weeks  in the NFL as he did in his entire time in college…AND high school!

14 – Tennessee over NEW YORK JETS – No AJ Brown, possibly no Julio Jones…but if you still have Derrick Henry, the Jets won’t be a problem.

13 – GREEN BAY over Pittsburgh – Safe to say the Steelers front office is realizing that this era is coming to an end. My BOLD PREDICTION for this week is that THE STEELERS WILL FINISH UNDER .500.

12 – Baltimore over DENVER – Can’t play the bottom of the league’s barrel every week, Denver.

11 – Tampa Bay over NEW ENGLAND – I wonder if Gronk is sad that no one outside of his family is talking about HIS return to Gillette Stadium.

10 – NEW ORLEANS over New York Giants –  I really want to think that this will be a good game…but then I remember…the Giants.

9 – DALLAS over Carolina – This will definitely be a game where the Panthers miss Christian McCaffrey.

8 – MIAMI over Indianapolis -  The Colts should be better than they are. If they turn it around this year, it won’t start this week.

7 – Seattle over SAN FRANCISCO –  It’s hard for me to think Seattle will lose three games in a row. After last week, it’s pretty easy for me to think that the 9ers can blow a game again.

6 – LOS ANGELES RAMS over Arizona – These two teams are just going to be fun to watch! If you are a bettor, take the over!

5 – Las Vegas over LOS ANGELES CHARGERS – Yes it’s a “road” game, but SoFi Stadium is expected to be 75% Raiders fans on Monday Night.

4 – Kansas City over PHILADELPHIA – It might sound crazy, but then again maybe it doesn’t. If you wanted to pick the Eagles to win this game, I wouldn’t be mad at you!

3 – MINNESOTA over Cleveland – If Dalvin Cook is ready to go, you can bump this up a few lines if you want.

2 – Washington over ATLANTA – I have nothing entertaining to say here…which is pretty fitting for this matchup I think.

1 – CHICAGO over Detroit – It’s a no-lose situation for Bears fans. If you win, hey you won a football game! If not, then it’s hard to see Matt Nagy on the sidelines for Week 5 let alone a new Arlington Heights stadium!

NFL Survivor Pool: Week 4

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL

Week three was relatively safe for everyone in the pool, with all the big favorites taking care of business. About 15% of the league were resurrected by Saint Justin Tucker's NFL record 66 yard field goal as time expired, but who could root against that kick? The Chiefs loss against the Chargers knocked out 18 for the highest number of the week bringing the total survivors down to 1064. Already 199 people have moved on this week with that actually exciting Thursday night game, where the Bengals pulled out a comeback win with a game-ending field goal. That may have been the best spot all year to play Cincinnati and they almost punished you for it. After watching my first Jaguars game, I don't see a winless season in their future.

I decided to use my two picks on the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans. The Bills are the biggest favorite of the week opening at -16.5 against the quarterbackless Houston Texans. Buffalo looks to be rolling now ever since their week one slip up against the Steelers. Houston has no chance against any of the better teams in the league until they upgrade their QB.

The Titans are my second choice for the week. There is no need for concern about them not having any wide receivers, they are playing the Jets. The Titans will get plenty of receptions on defense to make up for the absence of Brown and Jones. Zach Wilson must be ecstatic for Justin Fields' start for the Bears so he is no longer the biggest embarrassment at QB so far. Titans defense and a heavy dose of Derick Henry should be all it takes.

Good luck everyone! And Drink Five!

pickfive: 5 Pickups for Week 8

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL

It's the end of another exciting week of football which means it's time to put your claims in for available free agents in your fantasy league to strengthen your team. I'll be going over who I think are the top five picks for you to target this week so don't miss out on them. Good luck!

Note: %owned is based on Yahoo! leagues at the time of publication.

5) Deshaun Watson (HOU) - 18% owned – Purely a speculative pickup if you have the bench space and could use an upgrade at the quarterback position.  The trade deadline is November 2nd and if Watson ends up going to a team where he will start you may not have the chance to get him when there will be more demand.

4) Cincinnati (CIN) - 19% owned – The Bengals have a dream matchup against a Jets team giving up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses.  It’s not clear if they will be going up against the Jets recently acquired Joe Flacco or Mike White but either way they should dominate.

3) Kadarius Toney (NYG) - 46% owned – Toney has a chance to return from injury for a week 8 matchup against the Chiefs but even if he sits out another week he is a great pickup for the remainder of the season given the upside potential.

2) Allen Lazard (GB) - 5% owned – Davante Adams has landed on the COVID list making him uncertain to get cleared in time to play this Thursday which would put Lazard in a prime position in what is likely to be a high scoring affair against the Cardinals. Editor's Note: since this article was published, Lazard has also landed on the COVID list along with Adams.

1) Kenneth Gainwell (PHI) - 22% owned – Gainwell is expected to have a starting role for the next 2 to 3 weeks with Miles Sanders injuring his ankle.  He may end up splitting carries with Boston Scott but Gainwell has the edge in the passing game.

NFL Confidence Pool Picks & Strategy 2021 - Week 8

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL

I know what you are thinking, why am I bothering this week?

Why bother posting something this week since the NFL is taking a week off?

I completely understand why you would think that – it doesn’t really seem like the NFL will be playing any games this weekend.

Actually though, when I looked into it a little deeper, while the Raiders bye week does seem like no other game will happen, there will be a near-full slate of games, You’ll just have to wait an additional seven days to see the silver and black again.

I’m so sorry! BUT, we move on!

Week 8 – HERE WE GO!!!!

(HOME TEAM IN CAPS)

15 – BUFFALO over Miami – Tua says that he is confident that he is the Dolphins number one choice for their QB…yeah I don’t believe it either.

14 – Los Angeles Rams over HOUSTON – Brandin Cooks literally called out the BS of the Texans organization this week – not a good mindset to have when the Rams come to town.

13 – KANSAS CITY over New York Giants – OK, if the Chiefs can’t pull a Monday Night home win over the Giants off, then we can officially write them off this season.

12 – Cincinnati over NEW YORK JETS – The Bengals are legit – seems like this season they will have the rest of the AFC North Chase-ing them (see what I did there?)

11 – CLEVELAND over Pittsburgh – In their first meeting since last season’s playoff upset, it’s hard to see the outcome being any different.

10 – LOS ANGELES CHARGERS over New England – Last week might have been the Mac Jones coming out party, but it won’t be enough in LA.

9 – ARIZONA over Green Bay – Arguably the best game of the Thursday Night schedule – unfortunately COVID has made it so Aaron Rodgers won’t be able to throw the ball to anybody.

8 – San Francisco  over CHICAGO – Even with Matt Nagy off of the sidelines, it’s hard to pick the Bears.

7 – ATLANTA over Carolina – It seems as though the real Sam Darnold has indeed stood up.

6 – SEATTLE over Jacksonville – Geno Smith has come so close in the last two weeks, a home game against the Jags should be enough to get him over the hump.

5 – Tampa Bay over NEW ORLEANS – The Bucs stumbled in New Orleans last season and I was thinking about picking the upset here, but then remembered that Jameis Winston is not Drew Brees.

4 – Washington over DENVER – Stop me if you’ve heard this, but the Broncos aren’t good! My BOLD PREDICTION for this week is AFTER A 3-0 START, THE BRONCOS WILL FINISH WITH A TOP 5 PICK IN THE DRAFT NEXT YEAR.

3 – Philadelphia over DETROIT – It would make sense to think the Lions will get their first win here, but then you have to remember…Lions gonna Lions.

2 – INDIANAPOLIS over Tennessee – This just seems like a cool off game for the Titans after beating the Chiefs and Bills the last two weeks.

1 – MINNESOTA over Dallas – Apparently Dak’s health a question mark, which should be the opening the Vikings need.
